DAVID WELLS - ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
David Wells has established an outstanding reputation for his charismatic leadership at the podium and powerful interpretations of an extensive repertoire. His love for the choral arts, collaboration of all art forms, and effort to provide musical integrity to communities around Southern California has gained him recognition. In 2016, David Wells was awarded the John Alexander Memorial Scholarship for Outstanding Director during his time at Cal State Fullerton.
David Wells is currently Director of Worship and Music at Los Altos United Methodist Church in Long Beach, California, where he continues the work of such legacy directors as Frank Pooler by leading the Sanctuary Choir, the youth vocal ensemble ‘Bella Voce’, and coordinating the work of the Los Altos Bell Choir and Children’s Choirs.
Choral concert engagements include appearances at the Hollywood Bowl for Andrea Bocelli, Star Trek Live, and Home Alone Live; Segerstrom Center for the Arts with Kathleen Battle; and a soundtrack recording at UCLA with John Williams.
David Wells has a Bachelors in Vocal Performance from the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at Cal State Long Beach under the mentorship of Jonathon Talberg and Tim Macdougall. He also holds a Masters in Choral Conducting from Cal State University Fullerton where he trained as a choral and orchestral conductor under the mentorship of Dr. Robert Istad, Christopher Peterson, and Kimo Furumoto. He worked as a faculty assistant conductor for the Women’s Choir, Concert Choir, and the University Singers and had the opportunity to tour Italy, Sweden, Estonia, Finland, and Russia.
His most recent appointment began in August, 2017 as Artistic Director of the Temecula Valley Master Chorale. The Temecula Valley Master Chorale was founded by John Byun and serves the community as a respected Non-Profit Organization.
He has collaborated and studied with renowned conductors such as John Alexander, former Artistic Director of the Pacific Chorale, Richard Kaufman, Principle Pops Conductor of the Pacific Symphony, Jerry Blackstone, Director of Choirs at University of Michigan, and John Elg, former Mission Viejo High School Choir Director, Fox Studio Conductor, and Laguna Beach Pageant of the Masters Orchestra Conductor.
Former leadership engagements include Conductor of the Capistrano Valley Christian Schools High School Choir in San Juan Capistrano, CA, Operations Manager of the Long Beach Camerata Singers, Director of Music and Worship at Trabuco Presbyterian Church in Trabuco Canyon, CA, and founder and former Director of the Mission Viejo Youth Choir.
